Enjoyed since Roman times this tree produces fruits like large olives similar to dates which can be eaten fresh, made into jams and syrups, candied fruit and alcoholic drinks. The tree can grow to 6-7 metres and is contorted and has some spines. You do not need 2 trees to get fruit. Traditionally, one tree was planted to the left of a farmhouse door for good luck!
