Sandy Soil Vegetables Summary

Sandy Soil Vegetables

Extremes of soil can cause challenges and Sandy soil is no exception. Water drains away too quickly and often it is poor in nutrients but certain varieties really suit clays soils and here is a selection of them.

Carrot Touchon - With its long routes it will reach down to find the water and because the soil will be generally loose, you won't be getting any forked carrots!

Radish Easy to Grow  - Often when you buy radish you have to wash them as there is sand on them! They love sandy soils and will grow much more easily than in a clay soil.

Dwarf French Bean Easy to Grow - Climbing beans need support and in light soils that is a pain so a dwarf variety is needed and this one is not only easy to cultivate but also great in sandy soils.

Swiss Chard Easy to Grow - Spinach in sandy soils can suffer from drying out, but chard is much more resilient as well as being an easy variety to cultivate, when you cut it, it grows back and if you leave it it should burst back into life in the spring..

Cultivate Rocket Easy to Grow - Rocket is a weed, fast growing and a 'poor plant' so it doesn't need a rich Soil.
